Do you know how to repair your truck bed liner? Here are the guide.
Truck bed liners are a great way to add value to your truck and protect the truck bed. Truck bed liners are seldom covered by a warranty, which means you’ll have to repair it yourself when the liner breaks, chips, scratches or dries. Here’s what you can do.
Step 1: Prepare the Surface
The first thing you’re going to need to do is clean the liner surface. Park your truck somewhere open, well lit, and protected from the elements. Using a mix of mild detergent and water, scrub down the truck bed liner with a rag. Afterwards, dry off with a towel. Look for any areas where there might be broken metal or rusting. Use steel wool to remove rust or a tack cloth to get rid of dust. You will need to scuff the area around any damage in order for the new spray on liner to grip to the old liner.
Step 2: Fill Large Breaks
Repairing a truck bed liner is fairly simple when it comes to larger areas. Be sure to thoroughly read the instructions on the paint sprayer before using it as each one differs slightly in use. Tape off areas of the bed liner that you do not want sprayed, and spray the liner 1 or 2 inches over the intended repair site. This will allow the liner to dry and properly attach to the old liner, which will help maintain the strength of the truck bed liner. You should let the liner cure for at least 2 to 3 days. Keep in mind that some paint sprayers that require an air compressor may not have the power to spread correctly over a large area.
Step 3: Repair Surface Cracks and Scuffs
Smaller, more precise jobs do not need a paint sprayer. Instead, pour the bed liner material into a disposable paint tray. Using a small brush dip into the truck bed liner material and gently dab it over scuffs and damaged areas. Let the brush hover over small fissures in order for the material to slowly drip between the cracks. Again, let the bed liner cure for at least 3 days.
